Save Hard Drive Space for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War

We’re just a few days away from the arrival of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. And it promises to be one of the biggest entries in the series to date, with a huge new single player campaign that takes place in the 80s, along with traditional multiplayer features and even a little bit of Zombies action.
But all of that comes at a price, as the game will reportedly be one of the biggest yet when it also comes to space. This comes from specs that come alongside the PC version of the game, which requires a massive amount of hard drive space. And here we thought Call of Duty: Modern Warfare would be the biggest to date.

A whole lotta room is needed
According to the official PC specs provided by Activision and the developers at Treyarch, the PC version requires 250GB of storage space, along with an RTX graphics card along the lines of an Intel Core i9-9900K or AMD Ryzen 3700K. On top of that, 16GB of RAM will be needed to handle the game’s raw processing power.
Now, that’s a lot. Consider that Modern Warfare already uses around 200GB with its updates (and that’s on top of whatever is needed for WarZone), this is a huge leap. You can see the game in action in the official PC trailer below, which gives you an idea of just how all this space is being used.

So what about next-gen?
It’s hard to tell just how much space will be required for Black Ops Cold War to run swimmingly on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. However, the Xbox One and PS4 versions currently require 100GB, according to a pre-order page. So don’t be too surprised if the next-gen versions require something along the lines of 200GB – at least. That’s considering the 4K visuals and 120 FPS speed that should be close to the PC version, if not about the same.
Activision hasn’t provided final word on those versions just yet, but don’t be surprised if they’re around the same lines. With that in mind, you’ll want to make sure you have some alternate storage solution in mind, like an SSD card or external storage around those lines. Without it, well, your internal storage might already have a good chunk taken out of it once you get Black Ops Cold War up and running.
Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War releases on November 13th for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
It’ll arrive shortly thereafter for Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5.
