For years, the LittleBigPlanet games have become a dependable spot for building creative levels and letting loose with a series of lovable, fluffy characters. And on top of that, they introduced us to Sackboy, a zip-up hero with a number of facial expressions and a world of adventure at his fingertips.
So of course, it made sense to bring the hero to the PlayStation 5 in some regard. However, rather than sticking with a traditional entry in the long-running series, Sony and the developers at Sumo Digital opted for something different – a co-op enabled platformer for up to four players. And while that may bum out some of you creative types, relax. Sackboy: A Big Adventure still awaits – and should be a good time for all.
Loaded With “Sackitude”
In Sackboy across a number of stages as he chases after the evil Vex, who has kidnapped all his friends and looks to create the ultimate tool of destruction with the Topsy Turver. It’s so devastating, it could turn the land of dreams into the ultimate nightmare. Luckily, Sackboy is onto the plot and is out to stop it, with a little help from his newfound colleagues, who other players will control over the course of his journey.
As you can see in the trailer below, Sackboy relies more on running through pre-built levels instead of creating your own. But this enables you to jump right into the action as you take on adversaries, overcome puzzling scenarios and get that much closer to liberating your friends.
Granted, you won’t want to dilly-dally too long, as the time’s running out with each stage you come across.
Along with gameplay that’s easy for everyone to grasp, Sackboy: A Big Adventure will also take advantage of the PlaySense controller’s Haptic feedback. With this, you can actually feel the differences across each stage, from wool-like flooring to harder surfaces. It won’t distract you from the simple, fun gameplay either.
New World of PS5 Beauty
While Sackboy: A Big Adventure takes a different approach compared to other LittleBigPlanet games, Sumo Digital isn’t leaving its experience behind. It’s taking advantage of the PS5 processing power to bring it to life beautifully.
Along with colorfully designed levels with quirky little beings here and there to come across, Sackboy also features charming animations from Sackboy and his associates, so you can really see the LittleBigPlanet-esque personality shine through. And what’s more, you can unlock a bevy of skins within the game, dressing up Sackboy and company however you see fit.
That, combined with some truly charming music (akin to the LBP series of course) and sound effects, should keep you and your friends coming back for more until the journey’s end – and then you’ll jump in and do it again.
Fun For All, Even PS4 Owners
Sackboy: A Big Adventure sounds as if it’ll make a huge impact in the PlayStation 5 launch line- up. But why should the fun stop there?
The game will also make its way to the PlayStation 4 on the same day, so others can join in on that platform. Even without the Haptic features, they’ll still be able to enjoy all the fun that
Sackboy brings. In addition, the game is cross-buy compatible; so if you buy the PS4 version, you’ll automatically get the digital PS5 version free of charge!
Sure, Sackboy is a little lacking in complexity. But it’s still got the fun and joy that we’ve come to expect from his prior adventures – and that can go a long way when it comes to innovating on a new platform. Not to mention that PS4 players get to have a blast as well.
We’ll see how Sackboy’s latest Adventure goes when it arrives on November 12th for both platforms!
