Override 2: Super Mech League Bringing Serious Robotic Action

While the original Override: Mech City Brawl couldn’t quite match the popularity of Nintendo’s own Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, it left quite an interesting legacy, as players could select from a number of robots and wreck others with authority. And you can get it for pretty cheap nowadays, in case you need a game to knock around a few heads with.
But Modus Games, along with its studio Modus Studios Brazil, is already building up towards something bigger. This holiday season, it’ll bring out Override 2: Super Mech League. And along with its array of original robotic creations, it’ll add some unlikely additions to the scene – Ultraman.

Who’s Up For Ultra Goodness?
That’s right, the Japanese anime hero will join the cast of this beat-em-up, adding some starpower to the proceedings. They’re based on the recent Netflix anime series, so they’ll look quite familiar to anyone that’s caught an episode or two of that. (Or, hey, the whole season.)
Here’s the full cast of Ultraman characters, as confirmed by the publisher:

These four will be included in the special Ultraman Deluxe Edition of the game, though there will also be an Ultraman Season Pass for those that purchase the regular version. Various Ultraman cosmetic items will also be up for grabs, unlockable as you win fights in the game.

A Large Cast of Fighting Droids
Along with the anime superstars, Override 2 will also feature 20 original robots. These include a mixture of returning favorites from Mech City Brawl, along with several new faces. Each one has special abilities that can be used over each fighting round, along with different skill sets for players to master. Once they’re charged enough, they can unleash devastating ultimate moves that will leave opponents in the dust.
In addition, various modes will be available over the course of the game. These include a career mode, where you can build up a champion of your choosing and take on a string of opponents; as well as local and online match types, along with ranked matches – just in case you’re feeling seasoned enough to take on the world. The game will also introduce various arenas with hazards littered throughout, so you’ll need to watch your step while you wipe the floor with the opposition.
And, finally, adding a bit of personal touch to the game, you’ll be able to customize your droids. There are a number of modifications to make that will make them look like a winner, while at the same time improving their in-battle skills. It never hurts to continue making yourself better as the fights go on.
The only thing we’re wondering is if the game’s co-op mechanic will return. It was first introduced in Mech City Brawl, in which four players could work together to pilot a gigantic mech. Hopefully we’ll see it make a comeback, if only to get that Voltron sort of vibe – even if this is an Ultraman thing.

A Fight For Everyone
What’s great about Override 2: Super Mech League is that it’s releasing across a variety of platforms for the holiday season. It’s set to make its next-gen debut on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X; but it’ll also be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC. That way, no one’s left out of the battle.
There’s no word yet if the game will feature cross-play compatibility, or, for that matter, cross- buy between the PlayStation and Xbox consoles. Hopefully we’ll learn more closer to the game’s release.

This Holiday Season, Break Some Robots
Although it may not have the star-studded roster of other beat-em-ups, Override 2 promises to be quite the romp – especially to you die-hard Ultraman fans that have been awaiting his return to video games. We’ll see how the competition measures up when the game arrives in a matter of weeks.
