Here’s how Destiny 2 is Preparing to Jump to PS5 and Xbox Series X

Since its launch in 2017, Destiny 2 has grown quite an audience for the developers at Bungie.
And ever since breaking free from its publishing agreement with Activision, it’s managed to grow the free-to-play game even further with expansions and enhancements. But over the course of the next couple of months, the game will become bigger than ever before.
Along with the forthcoming Beyond Light expansion that’s set to arrive next month, Destiny 2 is preparing for its jump to next-gen consoles. Both the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 will get the game on December 8, with a number of features. And yes, it’s cross-generational, which means you won’t lose any PS4 or Xbox One friends as you make the jump to newer hardware.

The Technical Differences
With the move to Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, Destiny 2 will see quite a bit of technical difference. The big thing here is the frame rate. Even in the midst of battle, the game will retain a speed of 60 frames per second, about on par with the current PC version of the game. It’ll also be displayed in full 4K, compared to 1080p on current-gen systems.
But there’s more. There’s also a Field of View slider that fans can tinker with, enhancing the visual fidelity of each stage they come across. There will also be faster load times, which means you won’t have to wait as long to get into the action, no matter which portion of the game you’re jumping into. That’s good news.
And for those that already have the game and its expansions, you’ll be able to jump into next- gen at no charge. That means Xbox Series X owners will be able to enjoy it via Xbox Smart
Delivery, while PlayStation 5 owners simply need to find the game in their library and download away.
Now, keep in mind that cross-generation play is an option, but not Crossplay. Not yet. So respective parties will remain exclusive to Xbox and PlayStation consoles for now. This could change in the future, but it’s definitely a step worth noting.

What Awaits In Beyond Light?
The story goes a little something like this, according to Bungie:
The frontier of Europa holds many lost secrets from the past, including the dark power of Stasis. Work with the mysterious Exo Stranger to harness this new power before Eramis, the Kell of Darkness, bestows it on her Fallen forces. Grow your arsenal, command Stasis, and go beyond the Light.
What’s more, the latest expansion will also introduce a number of new Guardian sub-classes, as well as a new elemental power called Stasis, which comes across as “cold, dark and alluring.”
They’re ice-like abilities that can shatter enemies where they stand, so let’s just say it’ll come in very handy as you devastate them.
With the expansion, you’ll have a number of new areas to visit across the icy moon of Europa, as well as various new weapons to unlock and relics to locate. That means hours more of gameplay, including a stop in the Deep Stone Crypt, which promises to challenge even the most seasoned of Destiny veterans.
Destiny 2: Beyond Light’s expansion has numerous pre-order editions available. Perhaps the most noteworthy, however, is the Deluxe Edition, which features an Exotic Rimed Ghost Shell and a Legendary Emblem, as well as a full year of seasonal content. This hasn’t been detailed yet, but expect a lot of surprises, as well as goodies to collect.

Your Destiny Awaits
Even if you think you’ve uncovered everything that Destiny 2 has to offer, Bungie guarantees the adventure is just beginning. With its jump to next-gen and promising additions with Beyond
Light
, it looks to be much bigger than ever before. And cross-generational gameplay, even with the technical differences, should be a real treat for those that have already gotten a good battle party together. We’ll see the sparks fly when the Beyond Light update arrives on November 10; and the game debuts on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X on December 8.
