A Closer Look at the Intellivision Amico Hardware – and More Gameplay!

October 10 was originally supposed to be the day that the Intellivision Amico made its debut on the market. But due to conditions surrounding COVID-19, it’s now been delayed to April 2021.
However, Tommy Tallarico, president of Intellivision Entertainment, and his team have something big planned with the system; and decided to take the day to highlight a few things, particularly its design and some new gameplay.
For a system that’s set to retail for $299, the Amico has an impressive design to it. As you can see from the video below, it’s got some slick LED lighting, a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, and a pair of unique controllers that will bring the most out of your gameplay experiences.

System Features, Anyone?
The LED display can actually be configured in a number of ways, both on the system and each console controller, with 64 LED’s in all. This should add a bit of personality to each person’s gameplay experience, depending on what they want to go with. Of course, the games are the thing, but this is a cool little lighting effect that consoles are lacking. (Granted, Razer peripherals know how to be colorful and all that…) They’re adjustable, in case you find them to be a little too bright.
As for the controllers, they’re configurable, with touch screens, gyroscopes, speakers, microphones and wireless contact charging. They’re also set to last between four to six hours on a charge with the batteries included, which means you should be able to get quite a bit of gameplay out of them.
The Amico itself, meanwhile, has a USB-C connector, an HDMI out port, a power connection and a micro SD card port, just in case you need extra memory for games. The general system can store up to between 40 and 50 games, depending on what you download. But, yeah, it never hurts to have more games. And you can unlock more features using the RFID (radio frequency identification) connectivity feature, which is nice.

The Games – Yes, the Games!
Of course, a system is only as good as the games it provides, and Tallarico reiterated that the Amico will have around 30 to start, with tons more to come. Along with the games featured in the trailer below, he also noted that the company is partnering with PlayDate Digital on a new Care Bears game. Of course, action games are where they’re at too, with Tozai Games producing a new Lode Runner game and Data East remaking a number of classics. Eventually, that means Burger Time and, fingers crossed, maybe even Bad Dudes.
The trailer is jam packed with gameplay footage from anticipated titles like Moon Patrol, the recently announced Major League Baseball, the multiplayer Night Striker, and even Atari classics like Breakout and Missile Command. You can check out the action-packed footage below.

A Personal Touch
Last but certainly not least, Tallarico discussed a new personal feature that will play a part with the Amico when it launches next year – the ability to celebrate holidays and celebrations. The video below goes into more detail about it, but it’s very cool and makes you feel a little more at home with the console.

Needless to say, the Intellivision Amico has some big things in store. And keep in mind – we didn’t even mention the new Earthworm Jim 4 game that was revealed a few weeks back. Look for more information closer to its launch this April!
