Devil May Cry Promises One Hell of a Time on PS5

While the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will set the stage for all-new experiences for players to take in, they’ll also be platforms for developers to release enhanced versions of current-gen hits as well. Square Enix’s Marvel’s Avengers will see quite an upgrade on the platforms; Call of Duty will look better than ever with Black Ops: Cold War; and even Borderlands 3 is joining the fray.
With that, Capcom has announced their intentions to join this party with a special edition of Devil May Cry 5, which will arrive digitally (and later physically) during the launch of each platform.
For those that recall, DMC5 was easily one of the best action games from last year, with its fine array of characters and return to form with its hack-and-slash tactics. But now Capcom is upping the ante on the experience, and adding a highly enjoyable piece of the puzzle – the return of an old favorite.

Vergil’s Joining the Party
Joining Nero, Dante and the mysterious V this time around is Vergil, a long-time favorite for the series. We get to see a pretty good chunk of him in action in the trailer below, and it looks like he holds his own just as well as anyone else. According to Capcom’s PlayStation Blog post, he will have “more interesting twists” to unleash on enemies, as well as the return of his Concentration Gauge. This should make your strikes more calculative and effective than ever before. Not to mention fun as hell to watch.
Side note: Vergil will also be available as paid DLC for the current versions of Devil May Cry 5, for those of you that can’t quite afford the upgrade to next-gen. Pricing and availability haven’t been revealed yet, but we should know more soon.

Thirsty For a Challenge?
For those of you that want to up the ante in your Devil May Cry 5 skill set, the Special Edition certainly has you covered.
First off, there’s a new Turbo Mode. This will speed up the gameplay by 1.2 times the regular amount. That means you’ll need to think more quickly when it comes to dodging attacks and unleashing your own. Not to mention that, with the processing power of the next-gen consoles, the game will move at a blistering 120 frames per second, if you wish to take that option. (You can also bump up the graphics and watch at a lower frame rate.)
But perhaps the most noteworthy addition will be the Legendary Dark Knight difficulty. This is the holy grail of difficulty settings for Devil May Cry 5, and will put you through your paces.
According to the blog post, it “makes for all kinds of chaos on screen,” so be prepared for the fight of your life. This will remain exclusive to the Special Edition of the game, as Capcom insists it only runs properly on PS5 and Xbox Series X. (And PC, as the game will come to that platform eventually.)

Those Next-Gen Visuals
Finally, as you might expect, Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition will get one hell of a visual upgrade. Along with the 120 FPS option, there will be utilization of ray-tracking, which will
make the action look more stunning than ever before. With this technology, according to Capcom, there’s room for “more power” to produce real-time reflections, all while maintaining the beautiful visuals that the action has become known for. The general targeting remains at around 1080p in 60 frames per second, though performance may vary depending on what kind of television you’re using.
Audio will also be much more immersive, utilizing 3D audio effects to sound better than ever.
This is especially useful if you’re trying to hear incoming enemies, or someone suddenly trying to hit you from behind. And, of course, you can listen to those lovely taunts over and over again.
Best of all, the upgrade won’t be that costly. No, it’s not a freebie, but it is only $39.99, and that’s a small price to pay to enjoy the hellish action that awaits in Devil May Cry 5. We’re stoked to see what it can do when it arrives in November.
