Five PS4 Games That Will Be Worth the Upgrade To PS5

With the release of the PlayStation 5 set to come this holiday season, there’s a lot of excitement in what new experiences will debut on it, like the Ratchet and Clank and Horizon sequels. But a lot of PS4 owners out there also want to see some of the older experiences rejuvenated on PS5, as sort of a comparison of how power is between the two.
Not every game is set to offer this. However, some developers are offering free PS4-to-PS5 upgrades out there, so that they can enjoy their games on both platforms without having to pay an additional fee for it. Not everyone is on board with this practice (cough hack Call of Duty cough hack), but some are.
Here’s a rundown of five PlayStation 4 games that will have noteworthy updates on the PlayStation 5, possibly from day one. They should make a difference when it comes to presenting a familiar experience in a whole new light.

Marvel’s Avengers
Set to release this Friday, Square Enix’s take on Marvel’s legendary heroes is getting some big buzz on the PS4 front. But the publisher has already promised that it will be a huge title for PlayStation 5 as well, with a day one upgrade. With it, it’ll introduce dynamic 4K support, and bump up the frame rate from 30 frames per second to 60. That, combined with the explosive action that the game has to offer, should make it quite the showcase piece. Not to mention the long-term support it’ll receive with new heroes, like Hawkeye and the PlayStation-platform exclusive Spider-Man, among others.

Destiny 2
Yes, Destiny 2 remains just as relevant as it ever was. Now that it’s completely back in the hands of the developers at Bungie, they can guide it however they wish, as they’re doing with the forthcoming Beyond Light expansion. And there’s more where that came from, as the team will offer a free PS5 upgrade that will bump up its performance and visuals significantly. We’re talking moving up to full 60 frames per second with 4K and HDR support, across all its expansions. That’s quite the gift for those that have been long-time players, as well as first-timers that want a powerhouse open-world experience when starting up their PS5.

DiRT 5
We’re still a few weeks away from experiencing the latest entry in Codemasters’ long-running off-road racing series, but this looks like the biggest one yet with its expansive multiplayer features and compelling single player mode. But there’s more in store for PlayStation 5 owners, as they’ll be able to get the definitive version of the game at no additional charge. The game will feature a doubled framerate, going from 60 frames per second to a blistering 120, making it look more realistic than ever. That, and the DualSense will really bring out the best in its gameplay. We’re geared up just to see how well this bad boy will hold up.

Cyberpunk 2077
CD Projekt Red’s latest effort has been in development for quite some time, but will finally come our way later this year. And while PS4 owners will be able to enjoy everything it has to offer, PS5 owners could see the ultimate edition once it’s ready to go. A free upgrade will ensure that every moment of Cyberpunk will be playable on the new platform, and look better than ever before. Specific details weren’t given on what to expect from the port, but we’re guessing that it’ll look fantastic – and that’s good news for you Keanu Reeves fans. Whoa, indeed.

Doom Eternal
Yes, Doom is just as important a series as ever, thanks to the sheer destructive power of Eternal and its forthcoming story expansion with The Ancient Gods. So, of course, Bethesda is going all out to take full advantage of the PS5 hardware with a free upgrade, complete with touch-ups to both the visuals and gameplay that will bring it to blistering life. Don’t be surprised if that includes a slight bump-up in framerate, along with explosive effects that make those demons look all gooey coming apart at your hands. Hell never looked so good.
