Sega has had a history of console flops, and the Dreamcast was among them. I wrote when the Dreamcast was released, that Sega would need to invest in a cement factory, so they could encase all of their unsold Dreamcast systems in cement, and sell them as anchors. I was proven to be right in terms of sales of the system. However, I was wrong overall as the Dreamcast was pound for pound one of the best systems in terms of software ever created.
Sega had some other flops with the release of the non-functional Sega CD and the 32X add-ons which were money grabs and that didn’t sit well with gamers. Sega went on to sell their gaming wares on various systems and they have done fairly well. However, Sega needs to go back to its roots and bring out new versions of Shinobi, Virtual Fighter and the arcade version of Daytona 500 for the next generation consoles. A couple of new versions of Sonic and Sonic Racing would also fit the bill. As for how the Game Gear Micro will do, I think it will do very well in Japan, but it will be a flop here in North America.
