While Player First Games has reported some big numbers from the open beta of its multiplayer fighting game MultiVersus, it appears that it’s bringing the party to a close. At least, for the moment.
The company has announced that the game, which has been running in open beta, will be taken offline this June while it tinkers with it a bit. That said, it will bring it back sometime in “early 2024” with an “official launch,” likely with more characters and other features.
“Throughout our Open Beta, we’ve been working hard to build the best gameplay experience, and we appreciate all of the inspiration you’ve given us. Our Open Beta has been an important learning opportunity for us and a stepping stone to the next phase of MultiVersus,” the team noted in an announcement.
“We know there’s still a lot of work to do. As a result, we have a clearer view of what we need to focus on, specifically the content cadence of new characters, maps and modes to give you more ways to enjoy the game, along with updated netcode and more matchmaking improvements. We’ll also be reworking the progression system based on your feedback and looking at new ways for you to connect with your friends in the game.”
As for those of you that purchased content in the game, no worries – it will carry over into the final release next year.
In the meantime, players can still partake in local versus match-ups and The Lab once the online servers shut down. However, there won’t be a way to download the game past June, so get it while you can!
