This past year has already proven to be huge for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, between Konami’s classic Cowabunga Collection striking gold and Shredder’s Revenge becoming a classic in its own right. But you aren’t ready for what’s next. Doug Rosen, who serves as senior vice president for games and emerging media for Paramount Global, has revealed that a new AAA Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game is in the works, and it’ll be based on the dark graphic novel The Last Ronin. It’s said to be much, much more visceral than the previous games, leaning more towards a God of War style of play.
The story will follow a singular surviving Turtle after Splinter and the other Turtles are wiped out by the Foot Clan. It’s unknown just how much further the story will go just yet, but expect a lot of dramatic stuff, compared to the fun-loving pizza-eating attitude of the current releases on the market. It will also have RPG elements, likely with increasing the Turtle warrior’s style of
play. The game is still “a few years off” from release, and Rosen hasn’t even revealed the developer or publisher for the game just yet. Still, it sounds very promising, so we’ll keep a close eye on this one.
