This year has been a pretty big one for WB Games thus far. It’s riding high on a huge buzz for this May’s Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League; and Hogwarts Legacy has become a massive success thus far. But it appears that the rest of the year will belong to Sub-Zero, Scorpion and their friends.
Following the success of Mortal Kombat 11, WB Games has confirmed that a 12th game is in the works at Netherrealm Studios, though it has yet to be announced. Warner Bros. president and CEO David Zaslav pointed out the game during a recent fourth quarter 2022 earnings call, noting, “…there’s lots more to come, including the highly anticipated Mortal Kombat 12 and Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League, games also set for release this year with ambitious launch projections.”
Ed Boon, the co-founder of Netherrealm and co-creator of Mortal Kombat, played along with the leak, tweeting, “So who has heard the news about Injustice 3?”
That said, don’t be surprised if Warner Bros. somehow makes it to the lukewarm E3 event this year and makes it all about a Mortal Kombat 12 announcement and potential tournament. It’d be a big place for the reveal.
We’ll see what happens in the months ahead. But can you do us a favor, Netherrealm, and finally add Ash from the Evil Dead series to the mix? The fans have been wanting him!
