With everything going on right now with acquisitions from Xbox, PlayStation and other companies, it's no surprise that third party publishers are looking into seeing what their worth would be in the matter. And, apparently, that includes Electronic Arts.
The company reportedly expressed interest in a buyout earlier this week, noting that it would like to remain an independent developer after such a thing took place. But before heat could pick up on this story, CEO Andrew Wilson has noted that the company is doing fine just the way it is.
“I think we are in an incredible position,” he said. “We’re soon to be the largest stand-alone independent developer and publisher of interactive entertainment in the world.” He added, “(In) a world where gaming is becoming more important to the lives of Gen Z and Gen Alpha, who will be the leading generation in terms of consumption, entertainment for the future, I don’t think we could be in a stronger position as a stand-alone company.”
Perhaps this is just fanning the flames, but don’t be surprised if someone like Sony tries to make a play for the company in the future, in the hopes of countering Microsoft’s huge pick up of Activision Blizzard a little while back.
