A few weeks ago, long-time game developer Ron Gilbert announced that he would be returning to his beloved Monkey Island series for an all new adventure, Return To Monkey Island, which is due for consoles and PC sometime this year. However, it appears that Guybrush Threepwood’s new adventure isn’t quite going over as smoothly as planned.
Yesterday, Gilbert temporarily shut down his blog following dozens of harassing comments from fans who weren’t too thrilled with the game’s new art style, compared to how it had been in the past. He noted that “people are just mean” and “the joy of sharing has been driven from me,” noting he wouldn’t be posting any more updates about the game. You can see a tweet image of the message below, from voice actor Dominic Armato.
Bang up job, everybody.
(I've seen a lot of passionate but polite/polite-adjacent discussion going on, but the comments on Ron's blog were a total shitshow.) pic.twitter.com/BUBoPdU1fS

That said, it appears that Gilbert has restored the blog page, at least for now. But he hasn’t commented on the situation since, and likely won’t.
Just a personal opinion here, but these fans need to grow up. Games undergo art changes quite a bit these days to fit a new style or a creative new direction for a series. After all, there are a ton of fans who loved The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, despite its new approach compared to traditional games.
So, really, you rabid fans, you need to grow up. Monkey Island is going to be fine when it arrives on consoles and PC later this year.
Now stop.
