Nintendo recently aired a new Direct Mini showcase focused on third party releases that are coming within the year. And while it was disappointing we didn’t see any new first-party titles, there were more than enough great games for us to look forward to.
Here now, in no particular order, are the five biggest surprises that we took away from the showcase, which you can watch in full below!
Oh, Look, It’s Persona!
After what felt like an eternal wait, Atlus finally revealed that Persona 5 Royal would make its way to the Nintendo Switch this October. And for good measure, Persona 4 Golden and Persona 3 Portable will also debut in the months ahead, though a release date wasn’t given. Finally, those fans of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate can rest easy knowing most of Joker’s other adventures are finally coming to their beloved console. Whew.
Mega Man Battle Network Collection Finally Gets Some Love
Since we’ve seen pretty much every other Mega Man collection we can think of on the Switch, it’s time for the underappreciated Mega Man Battle Network games to get a shot. All ten of the classic handheld adventures will be included in the Legacy Collection, which is set to debut on the console, as well as other platforms, sometime in 2023. We’ll have to wait a little bit longer, but fans know that it’ll be worth it. So…any word on that Mega Man Legends compilation?
The Rabbids Are Back With Mario In Tow!
Oh, look, Mario and the Rabbids return! Another team up adventure from Ubisoft, Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, finally has a release date! The game will debut on October 20th, bringing with it a slew of new challenges, dynamic new gameplay features, and tons of great characters. Oh, and did we mention more Rabbids than you can shake a stick at? BECAUSE MORE RABBIDS DANG IT.
NieR: Automata Comes To Switch!
Square Enix had a couple of new games announced during the Nintendo Direct Mini. But the big one that was a real head-turner was the debut of the action/adventure NieR: Automata. The End of YORHa Edition features a number of goods, along with beautiful visuals and fun gameplay that you can take on the road with you. And you won’t have to wait too much longer for it – it arrives in October!
Hey, Sonic Frontiers Looks Great!
When Sonic Frontiers got a gameplay showcase earlier this month, some people were disappointed that it wasn’t Sonic enough (apparently that’s a thing). However, with the new trailer, which you can see above, we get a better vibe of what the game has in store, including traditional levels and fun gameplay features. This should be a real treat when it arrives this holiday season!
BONUS: It’s Portal, You Monsters
Last but certainly not least, Valve has provided a real surprise for those of you that are all about aerodynamics. Or cubes, anyway. Portal: Companion Collection is available right now for Nintendo Switch, and it’s a real treat for $20, including both iconic chapters in the Portal series.
Forget the damn lemons and get ready to dive back into this wonderful adventure!
