The developers at DICE are really committed to making Battlefield 2042 work, despite its hardships. How dedicated? Well, um, it’s the main thing they’re working on right now.
The new general manager for the studio, Rebecca Coutaz, explained to GamesIndustryInternational that the company is working hard to become a shooter “powerhouse” with Battlefield – and, um, apparently only Battlefield.
“The launch of Battlefield 2042 was not as expected,” she noted in the interview. “Our players and community were disappointed, but so was our development team. We have focused on the health of the game, and so bug after bug, patch after patch, we are fixing and improving it.”
That means any other projects, like Mirror’s Edge and Star Wars: Battlefront, are currently on the shelf as the team focuses on this. And Coutaz admitted this. “We are only focusing on Battlefield 2042,” she stated. “There is no time for anything else and this is what we want to do. In three years, we want to be the first-person shooter powerhouse that DICE deserves to be, and that is what we’re going for.”
But can they do it with 2042? Or perhaps they need a new shooter entirely to get this done, like, say, Battlefield: Bad Company 3? Guess we’ll wait and see.
