By now you must have seen the five must-play Nintendo Switch games we can’t wait to get our hands on this year. But why stop at one platform?
Sony has some big plans for the months ahead, some of which it’ll reveal during the State of Play event that’s set to take place today. But there are already five games for the PlayStation 5 that we can’t wait to check out.
In no particular order, here are five selections that we absolutely need in our game library.
ASAP, please…
God of War: Ragnarök
A game that is sure to show up on the State of Play today is the sequel to God of War, which promises to be much bigger and badder than the 2018 original. This time around, Kratos and Atreus have more challenges to overcome, particularly an angry warrior by the name of Thor.
Yeah, him. Expect this game to take advantage of the PS5 hardware and look better than ever, and with solid gameplay to match. BOY!
The Quarry
The creators of Until Dawn have been quite busy with their latest horror/action game, The Quarry. Following a group of teenage campers that find themselves at odds with a terrifying force, the game promises even deeper interaction and excitement than any of Supermassive’s previous games. Plus there are over 150 endings to unlock, which means the possibilities are literally endless. Get ready for a killer time when this drops next week.
Saints Row
Set to arrive in late August, Volition’s reboot of its classic third-person action series promises to be a fresh kick in the pants. Taking place in a Mexican-style town and featuring an array of hilarious characters, Saints Row promises a fresh new story, along with wild new weapons and all sorts of gangster antics. Also, did we mention the great new motif that the game will include? Begone, suits of purple – it’s time to look really stylish.
Gotham Knights
WB Montreal has been quite busy since the days of Batman: Arkham Origins, with a thrilling new comic book adventure featuring four of the Dark Knight’s disciples, doing battle with the likes of Mr. Freeze and other ne’er-do-wells trying to overtake Gotham City. Promising lots of exciting gameplay, beautiful next-gen visuals (PS5 only this time around), and potential co-op support, Gotham Knights looks to be a heroic effort once it debuts this October.
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum
Rounding out our list of must-plays on the PlayStation 5 is the return of the somewhat cretinous character from the Lord of the Rings lore. This time around, players will guide Gollum through a dangerous world, trying to make stealth-like decisions as he continues his journey for his “precious” – the one ring to rule them all. This one looks devastatingly cool, though how it plays has yet to be seen. We’ll find out later this year!
