2022 looks like another banner year for Nintendo. Even if we don’t get the sequel to Breath of the Wild like so much of us are hoping, we’ve still got a ton of games to choose from. And heck, even older games like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe are getting a chance to live again.
That said, these five upcoming games are going to be must-owns once they drop. So keep an eye on these and prepare your system for all sorts of greatness!
Bayonetta 3 (2022)
Provided something really bad happens at Platinum Games, we’re finally going to get the third chapter in the Bayonetta franchise this year. And based on the first gameplay we’ve seen thus far; it’s going to be a scorcher. New gameplay tricks, fun new visuals, and a story that should pick right up where the first two games left. Not to mention the sexy, be-witch-ing tactics of Bayonetta herself making a return. This, tied in with the game’s mature themes, should make this a real treat when it arrives in just a few short months. (We hope.)
Mario & Rabbids: Sparks of Hope (2022)
Seeing as how well the first Mario & Rabbids game performed, Sparks of Hope should be even more expansive. Additional characters, new abilities, new scenarios, exciting graphics, terrific gameplay…it all looks to be coming together in a carefully crafted union between Nintendo and Ubisoft. And with Miyamoto once again involved, it should be nothing short of a delight. Now if we can just get another StarFox infused Starlink game to follow up in 2023…
Splatoon 3 (September 9th)
Anyone with a pulse and a Nintendo Switch is probably thrilled for what’s to come with Splatoon 3. Everything that worked so well with the first two games will make a comeback, along with excellent new features, online options and fun multiplayer twists that should turn this into the messiest game to date. Not to mention a new single player campaign that should go leaps and bounds over what the last game did. That’s something worth shaking a squid at.
Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes (June 24th)
While we can’t wait to get our kicks in with the new Mario Strikers game coming in just a few days, the sequel to Fire Emblem Warriors has us all kinds of eager. Three Hopes will introduce many new characters into the fray, along with plenty of options to beat down hundreds of enemies at once. Not to mention the rumored story twists that will take place this time around, keeping the Fire Emblem flame burning brighter than ever. Bring on the Warriors!
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 (July 29th)
Honestly, I don’t know how the Xenoblade Chronicles team even sleeps at night. Every time a
new chapter of their series releases, it’s somewhere along the lines of truly epic. The third saga
is no exception, with even bigger threats, more intricate gameplay and the kind of visuals that
would make you drool upon command. July cannot get here soon enough for the adventure to
continue, and then begins the…short?…wait for the next one.
