In case you missed it, nostalgia fans, Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers’ movie has premiered on Disney+ this past weekend. It’s a lot of fun, chock full of great jokes and fun cameos. And one of those cameos will definitely bring up some weird vibes.
That’s because it’s “ugly” Sonic the Hedgehog. You may recall when Paramount was first starting up work with its 2019 adaptation of the hit character for movies, his character model was a bit…awful. In fact, he had teeth and beady eyes and just looked kind of terrible. Fortunately, they fixed him to look more like his video game counterpart, then moved on to success with both the first and second films.
Well, that “ugly Sonic” takes center stage in Rescue Rangers, hawking bad merchandise and making the most out of his character. He has a lengthy conversation with Dale (Andy Samberg) at a trade show, explaining how he had good things going for him, in spite of everything that went down. (Never mind he still has teeth.)
The producers wouldn’t say how they got a hold of the character, but apparently they made a neat little deal with Paramount to get the job done. And there are other characters from that universe as well.
That said, instead of Ben Schwartz voicing the character, Tim Robinson has stepped in to portray him. And he does a great job, though nothing can take away from Sonic’s haunting looks.
