Ever since its announcement several years ago, people have been waiting to see Ubisoft’s remake of the classic adventure Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Sadly, it looks like they’ll have to keep waiting.
After spending such time in development limbo, the project is changing development hands yet again. In a new tweet, the publisher confirmed that Ubisoft Montreal was once again taking over, removing Ubisoft Mumbai and Ubisoft Pune from the project.
It noted, “The development of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake will now be led by Ubisoft Montreal, the very birthplace of the epic Sands of Time trilogy. This decision is an important step and the team, building upon the work achieved by Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai, will now take the time they need to regroup on the scope of the game to deliver you the best experience for this remake of an all-time classic, when it’s ready.”
By “when it’s ready,” well, that could be anyone’s guess. At the very least, we likely won’t see it until 2023, but it could honestly go beyond that.
In the meantime, if you want to enjoy the game, the original is backward compatible on Xbox Series S/X. And it looks pretty good, too. Certainly beats nothing.
