With Warner Bros. axing so many projects over the HBO Max/Discovery merger, there’s talk that the fate of Warner Bros.’ game studios is unknown. However, talks are heating up, indicating that the company could be in the sights of a huge acquisition.
Kinda Funny’s Imran Khan noted that he “heard a decent bit of chatter” over the situation, with Discovery “shopping their game development studios around.” While neither has officially confirmed it, both Microsoft and Sony seem to be interested in the many properties offered.
The two big game guns have been working tirelessly over acquisitions over the past year.
Microsoft, for example, just picked up Activision Blizzard and is trying to finalize things. In retaliation, Sony answered back by picking up both Housemarque and Destiny 2 producer Bungie.
Warner Bros. has a lot to offer for whoever picks them up, including classic franchises like Mortal Kombat and its DC games, as well as upcoming titles like Gotham Knights, Hogwarts
Academy and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
WB hasn’t commented on the matter, but we wouldn’t be surprised if someone picked them up this week. That’s how crazy acquisitions are getting as of late.
