As previously announced earlier this week, Sony debuted a new State of Play special focusing on Hogwarts Legacy, a new Harry Potter game coming from the team at Avalanche Software. And, man, in that 20 minute time frame, did we see a lot.
The gameplay is featured below, including everything from wizard duels to broomstick flying to creating potions to taking on devastating creatures. It’s all in a day’s work for your magician-to- be.
The game puts you in control of a fifth-year student at Hogwarts, tasked with investigating some kind of goblin army that’s gathering away from the school, led by a vicious one named Ranrok. It actually takes place in the late 1800’s, setting the stage for what’s to come with the school.
According to Avalanche, the game’s focus is to “ensure your legend is never overshadowed by any other hero.” That means taking responsibility and using your spells wisely, so that you don’t create something in harm’s way.
It’s also deeply rooted in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, with a lot of familiarity with things you’ll love from the universe. Could that mean surprises may be afoot? Perhaps!
The gameplay covers quite a bit of detail here, including a cool Talent system, making friends with other students, and even upgrading skills so that your spells become the stuff of bad-assery.
Hogwarts Legacy is set to arrive this holiday season for consoles and PC, and should be a real winner when it does arrive. We can’t wait to cast a little magic!
We’re giving away a game console of your choice! Find out how to win here.
