As you’re probably aware, former PlayStation exclusive God of War (the 2018 edition) recently arrived on the PC front, with a debut on Steam. And with it, it brought a number of new visual settings, so players can get an even higher performance out of it on this platform than they could on the PlayStation 5. (Yes, apparently that’s a possibility.) But would this lead to a second-found success for the game?
Abso-frickin’-lutely. Upon its release on Friday, the game got off to a pretty good start, with around 1,800 user reviews and a number of concurrent players. At this point, it still remains one of the highest-rated games on the platform, with an overall rating of Overwhelmingly Positive.
But it’s the final numbers that came over the weekend where things are most impressive. According to statistics provided by Valve, the game has now reached over 75,000 concurrent players. And keep in mind that these numbers are for a single-player game, compared to stuff like, say, Counter-Strike GO. That’s truly something, and shows that Sony has a pretty viable plan when it comes to releasing some of its older PlayStation games on the PC front.
On top of that, this also means good news for the soon-to-come PlayStation exclusive (for now) God of War: Ragnarök, which is on tap to debut later this year. The sequel will once again continue the adventures of Kratos and his son as they take on new adversaries, including the possible series debut of Thor. With more people jumping into the current God of War lore, this will likely boost sales, even on a game console (again, for now).
On top of that, this could mean good news for Sony’s line-up on PC. We already know that the Uncharted games are due sometime this year to follow on the Legacy release on PlayStation 5 later this month; and other games could follow after that, though the company hasn’t said which ones just yet.
The future looks sunny for Sony on both PC and PlayStation, and that’s just the way they want it.
