We know that a remake of the BioWare classic Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic has been in the works for some time now, going through a complete overhaul visually. But apparently, some changes will be made to the gameplay as well.
A new report from a YouTuber by the name of MrMattyPlays indicates that the gameplay will have a new control set-up as well. Instead of utilizing the turn-taking method that a lot of fans have grown up with in the original, it’ll have a completely different combat system. Think God of War or maybe even something along the lines of Nioh 2, where it’s all about fighting.
There’s also some information from Aspyr Media job listings pointing to this. The company first asked to hire a Combat Designer that could “create engaging encounters in a rich and immersive world,” as well as experience in “defining combat roles and crafting AI behaviors to build interesting enemies and bosses.”
Then there’s also a second job listing for an AI engineer, who would need to work on a AAA action RPG – like this one.
Before you go freaking out that it won’t be the same game, keep in mind that we’ve seen revamps of combat systems before. Final Fantasy VII Remake and its Intergrade spin-off both saw that, and it turned out really well for fans.
Aspyr Media hasn’t said a word about the remake just yet, but hopefully we’ll learn more sometime this year. Check out the teaser trailer below in the meantime!
