It’s the start of a new year, and it’s a good time to see what’s coming ahead for gaming, even in the face of a new COVID pandemic. But at the very least, Sony appears to be ready for a rather big showcase.
Known game leaker Tom Henderson revealed on Twitter that he expects Sony to host a State of Play virtual event next month, and it’ll be worth tuning in for.
“The current rumor is that the next Sony event looks like it could be in February based on this month’s media events and past PlayStation dates. It’ll probably be State of Play, but it has the potential to be a pretty big one IMO,” he explained.
This is hardly an official confirmation, so take it with a grain of salt. Still, Sony would start off the new year on the right foot with a showcase, potentially with new Horizon Forbidden West and Gran Turismo 7 footage.
But the big rumor making the rounds is that this could be the showcase where WB Games finally reveals the big-budget Harry Potter game that it’s been working on, Hogwarts Legacy. The magic-filled release has been slated for a potential Q3 2022 release, so a trailer for so early in the year would make sense.
As for other games that could be revealed, your guess is as good as ours. We could see The Hobbit in action, along with a number of other potential releases. And there are surprises to consider as well.
In the meantime, we’ll keep our ear to the ground and let you know what we hear!
