If we’ve learned anything in this industry, it’s that any character can make a comeback. Case in point – after starring in the miserable Bubsy 3D, the feline hero returned in not one but two platformers in this current generation.
So color us shocked when we found out that Gex could be on the rebound. The pop culture-obsessed star, who appeared in a trilogy of PlayStation/Nintendo 64 games before bowing out to obscurity, was the subject of a new trademark filed by Square Enix.
The trademark can be found here, and though no details were given on any sort of new game with the character, it does indicate that there’s some interest. And considering that the games’ core developer, Crystal Dynamics, is a Square Enix entity, it doesn’t take long to put two and two together.
We’ll have to see what makes the rounds, but a remastered trilogy – not to mention an entirely new game – wouldn’t be out of the question. But would they bring back original voice actor Dana Gould, or perhaps give Ryan Reynolds a try? Guess we’ll have to wait and see.
In the meantime, enjoy the original Gex gameplay below!
