As expected, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is on the way to theaters on April 8th. And to celebrate the release date announcement, stars Ben Schwartz and Jim Carrey debuted a new trailer, which you can view below.
The story follows Sonic as he attempts to settle in to his new home in Seattle alongside his pal, once again played by James Marsden. But Robotnik (Carrey) resurfaces from the Mushroom
World, hellbent on gaining the power of a Chaos Emerald. Tails the Fox shows up to lend Sonic a hand, complete with biplane and the awesome voice of Colleen O’Shaughnessy. However, there’s also bad news afoot – the arrival of Knuckles the Echidna, voiced by Idris Elba. And he appears to be more powerful than expected.
The cast also features Tika Sumpter, Natasha Rothwell and Shemar Moore, and should be quite the return to summer movies, even as it arrives in late spring. Check out the trailer and enjoy the old-school vibes! (Like the snowboarding!)
For good measure, Sega also debuted a new teaser trailer for its next Sonic game, Sonic Frontiers! It’s set to debut in holiday 2022, and it appears to have an open-world vibe similar to
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Expect it on consoles, as well as PC. Check out the trailer below!
