Although it may not be a full-blown action game like Matrix: The Path of Neo or Enter the Matrix, we’re still getting something cool to tinker with from the franchise as Warner Bros. prepares for the release of the film The Matrix Resurrections.
Epic Games has announced The Matrix Awakens, an interactive tech demo that works with its own Unreal Engine 5 technology to allow players to tool around the universe of the film series, discovering new secrets and dangers along the way.
Lana Wachowski, the director of Resurrections, worked closely with Epic on the experience, which also includes Keanu Reeves and Carrie Anne-Moss, stars of the films, to portray their roles in-game.
The listing indicates that fans can expect “a wild ride into the reality-bending universe of The Matrix,” but do make note that it’s an experience, and not so much a game.
It’s set to release this week exclusively for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X consoles, and a 29GB demo is available for pre-install on both platforms. It’s set to arrive on December 9th
during the broadcast of The Game Awards, which will feature Reeves and Anne-Moss making an appearance. Whoa.
