The folks at Amazon Studios are starting to get super-serious about their dramatic adventure series. The company just premiered the first season of The Wheel of Time, which is already being well-received; and next September, it’ll jump into the world of The Lord of the Rings with its own take on the franchise.
But apparently that’s not all, as the company has been talking to BioWare about bringing one of its most historic franchises to the TV series front – Mass Effect.
According to Deadline, the company is “nearing a deal to develop a series based on the best- selling sci-fi video game franchise from Electronic Arts.” That’s not to say anything is final, but with Amazon’s stacked billions in the bank, it should just be a matter of time before Commander Shepard and company hit the small screen officially.
“You will see us continuing to invest in fantasy genre of all kinds, we have a genre-focused team on the ground in Studios who work tirelessly with our creative partners on those slates, and you can look forward to more,” said Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios. She didn’t specifically say what the studio has in mind for Mass Effect once it’s finalized.
EA recently released Mass Effect: Legendary Edition for consoles and PC, which has been well-received across the board. And BioWare has made no secret that it’s already hard at work on the next entry in the franchise, which will once again bring back Shepard and company – a nice change of pace from the last entry in the series, Mass Effect: Andromeda.
We’ll see what the future holds for Amazon and company in the months ahead!
No turkeys here – we’re giving away a PlayStation 5!
