Nintendo has gone ahead and revealed the best-selling Switch games leading up to September 30, 2021, and, surprise, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has run away with the lead. The game has sold 38.74 million units since its release over four years ago, with millions of players partaking in its racing shenanigans. Not bad at all, considering that the game was a port of the Wii U version.
In second place is Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which has sold 34.85 million units. And that’ll get even higher now that its DLC is available today, bringing even more players into the fold in time for the holidays.
Here’s the rest of the top ten, and how well they did…
3. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – 25.71 million
4. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – 24.13 million
5. Pokémon Sword and Shield – 22.64 million
6. Super Mario Odyssey – 21.95 million
7. Super Mario Party – 16.48 million
8. Pokémon: Let’s Go Eevee/Pikachu – 13.83 million
9. Splatoon 2 – 12.68 million
10. Ring Fit Adventure – 12.21 million
This list could easily change with new Pokémon and Splatoon games due over the next few months, and let’s not forget that Metroid Dread is doing incredibly well for Nintendo as well. As for system sales, Nintendo has revealed that the Switch has managed to sell over 92.87 million units in just four years’ time. All that stands in its way are certain pieces of hardware, like the Nintendo Wii (101.63 million units), the Nintendo DS (154.02 million units) and the Game Boy (118.69 million). But with the holiday season fast approaching, it’ll certainly make a dent out of those numbers.
We’ll see how the holiday shakes things up soon enough!
No turkeys here – we’re giving away a PlayStation 5 this month!
