Can you believe it’s been several years since Ubisoft has made a main Splinter Cell game? Sure, it featured Sam Fisher in some other games along the way, but not since Splinter Cell Blacklist have we seen him in action in his own adventure. But that, it appears, is about to change.
A new report from Video Games Chronicle indicates that a new entry in the series is finally in development over at Ubisoft, though it’s currently in an early phase of production. That means we likely won’t see it pop up for at least a couple of years.
As for which studio is working on the game, the report didn’t say. They do know that Ubisoft’s Montreal studio isn’t working on it, so it has to be another internal team – or possibly even a third party entity.
We don’t know the direction that the game is going either, so it’s hard to tell if the younger Fisher from Blacklist will make a return; or if Michael Ironside’s older Fisher will make his long-awaited return, for the first time since Conviction.
Without confirmation, it’s hard to tell if the report is confirmed or not. But it’d be great to see Fisher come back – and not to mobile, might we add.
In the meantime, dedicated players can enjoy a number of Splinter Cell games on Xbox Series S/X, including Blacklist. Check out its trailer below!
