We’ve been seeing leaks about the product for several weeks now, but Rockstar Games has finally made it official – the original Grand Theft Auto trilogy from the PS2 era is making a comeback!
In a recent press announcement, the company noted that the release will coincide with the 20th anniversary of the release of Grand Theft Auto III, giving players a chance to rediscover the games that led to the series becoming a multi-million best seller.
“We’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the Grand Theft Auto fans who have supported the games over the past two decades. Your love and appreciation for these games has helped push the Grand Theft Auto series forward with every iteration,” the company noted.
Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy will include GTA III, as well as Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, complete with “graphical improvements and modern gameplay enhancements for all three titles, while still maintaining the classic look and feel of the originals.” More information about the game will be available over the next few weeks, leading into its holiday release.
The games will debut on PlayStation and Xbox consoles, and Rockstar will also bring them to the Nintendo Switch as well. They’ll also be available on PC via the Rockstar Games Launcher.
That said, all “existing versions of the classic titles” will be removed from digital retailers next week. So if you prefer the classic editions, you better get them quick! It’s great to see the classics make a comeback with modern refinements – and, hey, the series finally comes to the Nintendo Switch, so there’s that as well!
