In spite of any controversy surrounding him, Randy Pitchford has led the Gearbox Software team to great success over the past few years. But now, he’s stepping down to work on something new within the company.
Pitchford confirmed that he is stepping down from his role as President of Gearbox Software, with Steve Jones, an experienced employee with over 20 years under his belt, stepping in.
However, Pitchford will still remain with the company, working alongside Gearbox Publishing as a whole, as well as the growing Gearbox Studios, who are currently hard at work on a Borderlands movie adaptation to be directed by Eli Roth.
“Congratulations to Steve Jones, who I have recently promoted to become President of Software at The Gearbox Entertainment Company. Attached is a diagram of the high level organization chart along with excerpts from my internal staff letter announcing the promotion,” Pitchford noted on Twitter. “This move follows my commitment to our mission to entertain the world and our position to scale our creative engine via organic growth. Our organization is well poised for transformative increases in performance and scale. With multiple AAA projects underway and many more in our greenlight pipeline with Gearbox Software along with a raft of great games from Gearbox Publishing and an explosive transmedia business with Gearbox Studios, we are just getting started.”
We wish Jones the best of luck in the new role!
