Marvel’s keeping quite busy in the gaming world. Guardians of the Galaxy drops next month; Insomniac Games is hard at work on new Wolverine and Spider-Man games; and Midnight Suns is due to release early next year. But on top of all that, there’s word that it’s working alongside Sony on a new multiplayer game.
On the recent episode of the XboxEra Podcast, industry insider Nick “Shpeshal_Nick” Baker revealed that Sony is continuing to do work alongside Marvel and Disney over the next few years, considering the success of the released Spider-Man games. That said, the new multiplayer game will be separated from those, and focus on its own ground.
As for who’s developing it, Baker believes Insomniac Games is behind it, though they’re busy enough with Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine. So that’s a guess, at best. Still, Insomniac did note they were doing some hiring as of late, particularly for a systems designer.
That’s really all that Baker could say during the show, so take it with a slight grain of salt. But still, the potential is definitely there for a fun Civil War-esque scrap, especially with many
Marvel characters joining the fray. We’ll see how this eventually pans out over time.
