It looks like Sony is starting to pick up speed on Twisted Metal – well, a TV series, anyway. And now it has its lead star.
Deadline has confirmed that Anthony Mackie will appear as John Doe in the upcoming show, based on the video game franchise of the same name. He previously appeared in a number of Marvel projects, including the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
In the show, he’ll portray John Doe, a driver looking to take a package across a wasteland loaded with all kinds of evil folks.
Asad Quzilbash, head of PlayStation Productions, noted, “We’re thrilled to have Anthony Mackie on board. His ability to blend comedy, action and drama is perfect for the Twisted world we’re creating.” “We’ve been big fans of Anthony’s phenomenal body of work over the years and knew he was the only actor who could play a character as complex, funny and compelling as John Doe. Fortunately for us, he agreed,” EVP Comedy Development at Sony TV Glenn Adilman added.
The show is currently in development with writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who previously worked on the Deadpool films. They’ll bring that style of humor and action to Twisted Metal, according to early reports. Cobra Kai writer Michael Jonathan Smith is also on board, along with Will Arnett and Marc Forman for Electric Avenue.
The series doesn’t have a release date yet, but we should know more soon enough!
