There were rumors circling that Marvel was looking to enter the strategic game market, with 2K and Firaxis Games – the developers of the XCOM games – firmly on board. Now, it’s a reality, as the sun has risen on an exciting new franchise.
During the Gamescom Opening Night Live event, the publisher revealed Marvel’s Midnight Suns, a new turn-based RPG that actually features an all new gameplay system. What’s more, it won’t be haunted by “permadeath,” which made players cringe upon losing particular favorites in previous XCOM games.
The title will put players in charge of a legendary Hunter, resurrected to battle an ancient evil on planet Earth. But they’ve got some back-up in the form of various Marvel superstars, including Iron Man, Captain America, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, Blade, Nico Minoru, Magik, Robbie Reyes as Ghost Rider, and Wolverine. More characters could be added over time, but this is a pretty impressive line-up.
Lilith, the Mother of Demons, has awoken, and that spells big trouble for the planet. Luckily, the Hunter knows her personally, and decides to side with the Marvel heroes to stop her. It’ll take all their skills and techniques to put a dent in her little crusade.
Check out the debut trailer below, and expect more gameplay from the title to debut on September 1st. It’ll release for Xbox and PlayStation consoles, as well as PC, this coming March.
