Weeks ago, we heard rumors that the latest entry in the Horizon series for PlayStation 4 and 5 wouldn’t make the trip to store shelves this year. And it turns out we were right.
During this week’s Gamescom presentation, Sony confirmed that Horizon Forbidden West won’t be available until February 18, 2022. Apparently, the developers at Guerrilla Games need a little more time before letting Aloy loose on a new world.
“It’s no surprise that our teams were hugely impacted by the global pandemic; we have been adjusting to new workflows, protocols, and other challenges, while keeping our teams safe and prioritizing a healthy work/life balance,” game director Mathijs de Jonge explained in a PlayStation Blog post. “While the decision to move the game’s launch to 2022 certainly wasn’t easy, we’d like to take a moment to thank all of our fans for their unwavering support; we know how much you’ve been looking forward to reuniting with Aloy and her friends, continuing her story, and exploring a new and more dangerous world. Your passion, fan art, cosplay, virtual photography, and videos have meant the world to all of us.”
That said, players won’t have to wait too long to experience Horizon goodness on PS5. A new patch for Horizon: Zero Dawn has arrived, allowing players to enjoy it in higher frame rate and resolution on PS5. It’s out today, and players can download the patch free of charge!
