Even though the game is done getting new content – at least, for the time being – Mortal Kombat 11 continues to score big with fans.
Warner Bros. Games recently reported sales numbers for the hit sequel, indicating that it continues to be on a best-selling streak.
The game has sold more than 12 million units worldwide since its initial release, including expansions like Ultimate and Aftermath.
In addition, it has added on to the series’ overall impressive sales, which have now reached over 73 million units sold worldwide.
Not to mention Mortal Kombat Mobile, which has also done well in its own right with 138 million downloads.
Warner Bros. noted that millions of people continue to enjoy the franchise regularly, as well as talking about the recent success of its live-action Kombat movie, which recently came out on various home video formats.
“When Mortal Kombat launched nearly 30 years ago, I never dreamed it would grow into the franchise it is today with more than 73 million games sold,” said Ed Boon, Creative Director at NetherRealm Studios and Co-Creator of Mortal Kombat. “We have some of the most passionate fans in the world and we appreciate the support they have shown us over the years.”
NetherRealm has since begun work on a new project now that it’s finished up with Kombat, though word has it that it could very well be Marvel related. We probably won’t know until sometime next year though.
