Remember a few years ago when Konami had ambitious plans to relaunch the Silent Hill franchise with a huge entry produced by Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro, only to scuttle it to the wind without even any hint of reasoning? So do we. But now the company may be working on a more traditional return to the series, and with an unlikely partner.
Bloober Team, the company behind such thrilling efforts as The Medium and Blair Witch, have entered into a “strategic co-operation agreement” with Konami, the publishers of the horror series. While they didn’t specifically say they were working on the next chapter of the Silent Hill franchise, it certainly got the rumor mill rumbling.
“It is a historic day for me and the culmination of several years of our work,” said CEO Piotr Babieno in a press release. “The fact that such a renowned company as Konami has decided to strategically cooperate with the Bloober Team means that we also joined the world leaders in gaming and became an equal partner for the leading players in this market.”
Konami added its own comments on the deal as well. “In the digital entertainment industry, significant changes in the business environment are expected in the future. We look forward to combining Bloober Team’s and our respective characteristics and strengths to create high-quality contents.” Again, no one said anything about Silent, but the prospect is definitely there. Konami has been pretty good about reviving lost IP as of late, with dedicated collections to Contra and Castlevania making the rounds, along with a new deal with Tencent to bring the run-and-gun series back to mobile. So we’ll have to see just how, ahem, silent this deal remains…
