This year’s E3 event is less than a week away, and though it’s only going on the digital side this time around, there’s still a lot to be excited about. But one publisher that could easily steal the show is 2K.
A new leak over on Reddit, put together by a user named swine_flu_greg (and corroborated by industry journalists Jason Schreier and Jeff Grubb), indicates that 2K has some big announcements in store for this year’s event, including more sports sequels, a new Borderlands spin-off and a title that’s being made in conjunction with Marvel. Here’s the rundown.
First up is this spin-off, reportedly being put together under the code name “Daffodil”. It’s a Borderlands title that centers around Tiny Tina, one that will feature multiple playable characters. Gearbox and Take-Two had hinted on a new title in the series in the past, and Gearbox is set to do some sort of presentation next Saturday. We’ll see how this lines up. They better bring Claptrap to the part.
Firaxis’ Next Strategy Game
The team behind the X-COM series reportedly has a new turn-based action game in the works, but it’s a much, much bigger one. This features characters from the Marvel universe, indicating an official collaboration with Disney with the title. The game will follow traditional X-COM rules, but with many heroes and villains from the universe. Not only that, but a slew of popular voice actors will take over the roles of said characters. We’ll see what comes of this, but it sounds like Marvel is continuing to expand its role in video games.
Next up is a unique open-world action game from Hangar 13, the studio behind the most recent Mafia games. Though details are light, they indicate that the game is “Cthulhu meets Saints Row”, with some interesting twists. Hangar 13 did mention it was working on a new IP in the past, so this could be rather interesting.
We already knew that WWE 2K22 will return later this year, and now hints indicate that the NBA franchise will also make a triumphant return, featuring Dirk Nowitzki on the cover. No features have been revealed yet, but we should know more soon.
Whether these games will come to fruition is yet unknown, but they sound very likely, based on Schreier’s tweet. We’ll see what happens in the next week or so ahead!
