Though many gamers knew that the game wouldn’t make its arrival this year, Sony, alongside Santa Monica Studios, have confirmed that the latest adventure of Kratos won’t be making the rounds for a few more months.
In a letter posted on Twitter earlier today, the studio confirmed that God of War: Ragnarok wouldn’t arrive on PlayStation 5 until sometime in 2022. For good measure, it also confirmed that the game will also arrive on PlayStation 4 around the same time, taking away next-gen exclusivity for the sequel. Still, the PS5 version will be the better looking of the two. In the letter, Santa Monica Studio noted the following:
“Since the release of the next God of War teaser last year, we’ve been humbled by the amount of love our community has shown us. We’re incredibly grateful to see so many people excited to experience the next chapter of Kratos and Atreus’ journey. We remain focused on delivering a top-quality game while maintaining the safety and well- being of our time, creative partners, and families. With this in mind, we’ve made the decision to shift our release window to 2022. Thank you all for your continued support, we’ve got some exciting things in the works that we can’t wait to show you!”
It’s a bit of a bummer for some, sure. But the good news is that we could finally see some gameplay from the title during the Summer Game Fest next week, which Sony will be taking part in. They haven’t confirmed all the titles they’re showcasing, but Ragnarok would make quite a debut there. We’ll see what’s in store.
In other Sony news, Gran Turismo 7 is still on the way, only now it’s coming to both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. It seems that the multi-platform concept is working well for the company, which is good news for those that can’t seem to find a PS5 at the moment. Enjoy the Ragnarok teaser below and keep those fingers crossed for a new trailer!
