Remember back in 2014, when Insomniac Games took a big risk with Microsoft and produced one of the Xbox One’s most elaborate – and entertaining – launch games? Of course you do, because it’s Sunset Overdrive. And seven years later, it’s still a delight to play.
But for those that missed out because you were in PlayStation land, don’t fret. You may soon have the chance to join in on the fun.
A Twitter insider by the name of Nibellion recently shared the news that Sony Interactive Entertainment, who now own Insomniac, have filed a trademark registration for Sunset Overdrive, per the United States Patent and Trademark Office. It was dated back on April 26, 2021, so something could be brewing over there.
Insomniac Games does own the IP, so bringing it from the Xbox to the PlayStation 5 (or 4) would be a rather easy thing to do. These versions have been rumored for some time now, but with Insomniac working on Spider-Man: Miles Morales and the upcoming Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, it wasn’t likely in the cards. With this new trademark registration, however, a surprise announcement during a State of Play broadcast – maybe next month during E3 – seems likely.
We’ll let you know what comes of this as soon as official details are released. In the meantime, here’s a synopsis for the game, as well as its official trailer from 2014.
