It’s hard to believe that it’s been a few years since Square Enix released the spellbinding NieR:Automata, which has gone on to sell millions of copies and become a titan success for the company. But there’s more where that came from, as the prequel NieR is getting a remake in the form of Replicant, dropping this Friday.
As expected, the game will feature boosted visuals and soundtrack over the original, courtesy of producer Yoko Taro and the developers at Toylogic. But the real attention grabber here will be the gameplay, and the new gameplay footage below gives you a good idea of what to expect, courtesy of PlayStation Underground.
As you can see, there’s a lot of insane hack-and-slash action. However, there’s also a good dose of strategy, as you’ll use dodges and parries in an effort to take down certain opponents. And we haven’t even covered the bases over what the bosses have in store for you. (There is a nice battle at the end of the clip, though, if you’re curious.)
However, there’s more where that came from. Square Enix will include additional content to keep players intrigued. This includes a new story episode called Mermaid, as well as exclusive new dungeons to take on, and returning music and cast members from Automata, for good measure. You can see this in the trailer below.
There’s a lot in store for NieR fans, and you’ll be able to dig in once the game releases on April 23rd for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. You can also play it on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X.
