For a little while there, 2K’s WWE 2K series was doing pretty well with fans, delivering simulation thrills with a loaded roster. But then…WWE 2K20 came along and, for the lack of a better terminology, screwed the pooch pretty badly. Glitches galore, along with lackluster content and poor gameplay changes, left fans feeling burned. So much, in fact, that the series took 2020 off, with WWE 2K Battlegrounds replacing it.
But it looks like 2K is ready to bring back the sim, for better or for worse. During tonight’s Wrestlemania broadcast, the publisher revealed a brief trailer for WWE 2K22, which appears to be headed to consoles sometime later this year.
Featured below in a tweet from the official WWE Games account, it shows a brief glimpse of gameplay, with Rey Mysterio easily handling his opponent, Cesaro, with a 619 swinging kick on the ropes.

The trailer promises that WWE 2K22 “hits different,” though it looks about the same as previous sims we’ve seen. However, if it’s coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X – which it could be – then we could be in for something special. That’s if, mind you, the devs at Visual Concepts have learned their lessons from WWE 2K20’s hideous mistakes.
We’ll keep tabs on this one and let you know when the game is set for release. Fingers crossed that things go much better this time around.
