Yes, the removal of Super Mario 35 still stings a bit, but don’t fret. Nintendo, teaming up with Bandai Namco, has the next big multiplayer experience that’ll have you eating dots and ghosts like a bandit.
The companies have announced Pac-Man 99, which will be available on the Nintendo Switch as a digital download starting today. You’ll just need to make sure you have a Nintendo Switch
Online membership, as it’s available primarily for those players.
Like Tetris 99, Pac-Man 99 is built around the idea of staying in the game as long as you can.
You’ll chomp ghosts and dots as you attempt to keep your score going. However, players can throw in “shadow” Pac-Men to throw you off, as you’ll lose speed after hitting one.
You can also create a Pac-Train with some of these ghosts, and if you eat a power pellet at the right time, you’ll eat them all in a row and really multiply your score! The winner will become the Pac-One, with a K.O. record and a score to make the other players proud!
The core game is free, but there is stuff that you can purchase to add to the experience. This includes offline modes going for $14.99, as well as special themed packs featuring classic Bandai Namco games. You can purchase it all for just $29.99, and own the game forever! No word yet on a physical edition, but hope springs eternal.
