Following the work that’s been done on Tom Holland’s forthcoming Uncharted movie, it appears that Sony is serious about bringing some of its most beloved PlayStation franchises to the big-screen. And next in line is quite a surprise pick.
Per this report from Deadline, Sony Pictures, alongside PlayStation Productions have announced that a movie based on the hit Sucker Punch Productions game Ghost of Tsushima is in the works. In addition, it’s already announced a director on board for the project – Chad Stahelski, who previously worked on the Keanu Reeves action flick John Wick.
Stahelski will produce the film alongside Alex Young and Jason Spitz, through their company 87Eleven Entertainment. Sucker Punch will also be involved, serving as executive producers on the forthcoming project, with Peter Kang in charge.
“We’re excited to be partnering with Chad and 87Eleven Entertainment, to bring their vision of Jin’s story to the big screen. We love working with creative partners like Chad, who have a passion for our games, ensuring we can create rich adaptations that will excite our fans and new audiences.” said Asad Qizilbash, Head of PlayStation Productions.
Since its release last year, Ghost of Tsushima has become a massive hit for Sony, selling over 2.4 million copies in its first three days of release alone. It’s also earned nominations for awards across the board, and also has enhancements that make it look better than ever on the PlayStation 5.
Casting for the movie hasn’t begun yet, but we certainly wouldn’t argue with bringing Daisuke Tsuji, the actor that plays Jin Sakai in the game, on board. We’ll see what happens in the months ahead.
If you haven’t checked out Ghost of Tsushima just yet, stop what you’re doing and get it done. It’s amazing. Check out the trailer below if you don’t believe us.
