Back in 2014, Gearbox Software partnered up with Telltale Games to produce Tales From the Borderlands, a story-based episodic adventure featuring elements from its hit first-person adventure series. It turned out to be a hit across its five episodes, but then became an afterthought following the scuttling and eventual rebuilding of Telltale a little while back. But now, it appears that the Tales could be making a second go-round.
A PEGI rating went up a little while ago, listing Tales From the Borderlands rated for various platforms – including Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. This would mark the debut of the episodic series on those platforms, as it previously came out for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, respectively. Though the games are playable on those systems via backward compatibility, next-gen releases would obviously come with updated visuals, along with other potential features.
The series focuses on Rhys and Fiona, two new characters in the Borderlands universe with their own story to tell. They’re trying to recover cash in the wake of Handsome Jack’s demise,
but certain situations – and characters – keep them from getting it so easily.
The game was a huge success during its initial release, so there’s no question it could be again when it comes to these platforms. Alas, neither Gearbox nor Telltale Games have said anything just yet, so we’ll have to wait and see. In the meantime, you can enjoy the current version on the newer platforms, just to tide you over.
