Many years ago, Lucasfilm Games set out to change the gaming scene forever with classics like Maniac Mansion and Rescue on Fractalus! Eventually, it would become LucasArts and, for years, be all things for fans of Star Wars titles, amongst other genres. But then, just as quickly, it vanished shortly following Disney’s acquisition of the Star Wars brand.
But, lo and behold, the company has made a return – and how. In an announcement on the
official Star Wars page, the company was revealed, serving as the “official identity” for all Star Wars games, as well as other titles that will be revealed through collaborations with various
studios. The company already launched an official Twitter page, along with a Facebook profile.
Though the studio didn’t have anything new to announce, it’s likely the first new release with the Lucasfilm logo will be none other than Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, which is due to arrive sometime this year for consoles and PC.
That doesn’t mean the studio is taking its development of Star Wars games in-house. Electronic Arts will continue to serve as the main publisher of games under that license, including hits like Jedi Fallen Order and Squadrons. No word yet on what the company has planned next, but hopefully we’ll find out in the months ahead.
Still, this makes for a nice, nostalgic return of the brand that a lot of gamers grew up with. Check out the trailer below and get ready to build up some great Star Wars memories again!
