Looking for a way to start off 2021 right? Well, how about watching a bunch of speedrunners conquer your favorite games – and a few obscure ones – all in the name of charity?
Games Done Quick 2021 has begun, running from now through January 10th. Over the next few days, some of the world’s best players will “speedrun” their way through a number of games, from classics like Final Fantasy and Spyro the Dragon to more current releases like the awesomely cool Hades.
The full schedule is available here, breaking down which speedrunners will be taking on which games so you can watch your favorites get beaten.
As you might guess, COVID-19 has forced the GDQ team to take everything online. Usually, they get a gathering of hundreds of players in a room to watch the action. Now, however, speedrunners are doing everything from the comfort of their living rooms and bedrooms. But don’t you fret, as they’ve still got the skills to pay the bills.
All proceeds from the speedruns will go to the Prevent Cancer Foundation, another good cause in the company’s long line of running. It’s managed to raise over $15 million since its start way back in 2010, and $3.1 million of that came from last year’s event alone. Those that donate also have the chance to win some cool prizes, thanks to a number of donors taking part in the occasion.
